After making final preperations and packing a few last-minute items into three vehicles, a group of volunteers from Wayne Community College departed for Haywood Community College Friday afternoon.

The group will be delivering supplies, clothing, funiture and more to the college, which is located northwest of Asheville about six hours from Goldsboro.

Haywood was severly damaged during storms associated with an unusually active hurricane season this summer. The college campus saw four of its buildings destroyed, and students, staff and faculty also realized a considerable amount of damage to their personal property.

Folks from Haywood came together in 1998 to help students, staff and faculty of WCC after the Flood of the Century associated with Hurricane Floyd.
